Behaviour Training for Professionals

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why so many schools and other educators need consultancy-based behaviour management training?
Effective Behaviour Training is a very rare commodity.   Frankly, this is not an area that has been handled well by TT colleges. In addition to this, many colleges offer shortened courses that desperately need specialist input.

    List of Recent Educational Work

Observation of (and feedback to) staff

  2. Will Warwick Dyer - who made the Channel 4 Series  "Bad Behaviour" -   be providing our Training himself?
Yes, Warwick provides all our training himself.

  3. Does Warwick train staff from all the educational phases?
Yes.    Nursery;   Infants;   Primary;   Secondary;  and  Post 16;   PGCE courses; Teacher Training Modules   as well as   Educational Psychology staff;   Social Services Staff;   Mental Health staff;  Parenting Organisations;   and  Special Education Staff including secure units.

  4. How much does a Day's Training Cost?
The cost of a day's Training is £580 and this figure includes all our expenses.   The cost is the same regardless of the numbers attending so if your staff is relatively small it can be very cost effective to combine your training with other teams.

  5. What is the philosophy behind your training?
We take an eclectic although mainly behavioural approach. We are successful because we work with strategies that enable teachers to anticipate the difficulties that pupils pose and generate a detailed response to targeted behaviour.

  6. What is the Focus for the training ?
Practical - the explanations and activities are based on teaching or training based problems identified by the particular set of professionals being trained.

  7. Do you suit training to the needs of the organisation?
Yes.   Through variations of the two main models of training.   Firstly through a note-free lecture which is based on the concerns of the participants gained through informal conversations during pre-inset coffee.   Secondly through teacher-observation and feedback to the teacher concerned.   This latter format can be used to observe an individual teacher during the course of a day or in 20-30 minute slots to monitor and train newly qualified members of staff or the staff as a whole.

  8. What areas of teacher-pupil interaction are looked at?
Although the body of the work is with strategies needed to handle more serious " refusals" and disruption we place this in the framework of "delivery effectiveness".   This means we train teachers to monitor and increase the ratios of on-task behaviour. We also show the culture-changing effects on serious disruptive behaviour of work with silent or non-challenging off-task behaviour.

  9. Can I be confident that it will be effective ?
Yes!    The INSET and TT is very intensive. Teachers are able to construct and maintain successful `behaviour management regimes´ based on this training

  10. Timing your Training
Schools often have their INSET days at the same times in the Term. You will probably need to book well in advance.

For Teaching students it is best to arrange behaviour management training prior to the start of teaching practice.

  11. Evaluation
We carefully Evaluate training - our sessions typically have 100% positive feedback
